Oh, Tiki!

Okay, so the Tiki update is a few days late, sorry!

Tiki's been driving us crazy. The pup has a lot of energy, is huge for what we're used to and has a bum foot again. Yes, I said again. She's been limping every now and then on her right foreleg and I think we may have figured out why. No, it's not pano as it hasn't switched legs. It appears that the largest pad on that foot has a very very thin spot on it and it easily gets raw and sore. I'm going to have the vet look at it when we take her to get spayed in about 5 weeks....

I was planning on having her spayed in two weeks, but of course she had other plans. At 8 months and 3 days old the little big missy went into heat. Um, that would be today! I have never dealt with a female in heat but I suppose this is a crash course. CST doesn't keep any of their dogs intact as they don't breed any litters and they want their pups neutered by 6 months but money issues interefered with that plan so that didn't happen... unfortunately my hope that she wouldn't come into heat until 9 months at the earliest obviously didn't pan out. Why would it, though? She seems much older than her 8 months so it only makes sense.

Oh yeah, her weight! This girl was 63.4 lbs 8 days ago at just shy of 8 months! She is definitely the biggest pup I have raised as Iverson graduated at 62 lbs at 2 years old, Eclipse is 2.5 years old and just under 55 lbs and Eola is probably around 60 lbs. Oy, big puppy! So once she gets spayed and recovers from that she'll be going into an obedience class. Turns out our trainer from the local Petco is no longer there but I have an e-mail into her to see if she's still training privately or not. I'd rather not have to switch trainers as we're comfortable with her but if we must, we must.

So there's your Tiki update. She's huge, she's in heat, she's got a bad foot that makes expending her energy difficult and for the past 3-4 weeks she's been driving us bonkers.
